Some forms of dampness or timber decay is almost universal in traditional buildings throughout Britain.  The extent of this problem varies from insignificant to major structural damage.  Dealing with these damp and timber problems depends upon who you instruct.  We have noticed, since the global economic downturn, that some of our clients have been offered a free damp survey or damp and timber survey by builders who are passing themselves off as a damp specialist or timber expert and providing quotations for works which have been completely misdiagnosed.  They have been advised to have chemical treatment carried out, when in fact, by carrying out basic remedial measures, the problem has been controlled or cured without the use of chemicals.  To have a dampness, woodworm or timber decay problem correctly identified, it is important that you contact a damp and timber specialist / expert / contractor.  (Who in the world would employ a plumber to re-wire a house or an electrician to fix a leaking pipe?!). 

A DampAid UK surveyor is a specialist consultant as well as a surveyor, having undergone internal and external training to gain the nationally recognised and necessary qualifications - namely CSRT (Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatment) & CTIS (Certificated Timber Infestation Surveyor).  This enables the surveyor to correctly diagnose a dampness, rising damp, woodworm or fungal / timber decay problem and to recommend the correct remedial measure to control, cure or treat it.

Many of our damp & timber surveys are carried out for client's who are buying a property and have been instructed to employ a damp proofing specialist or timber treatment specialist to investigate areas of dampness, moisture ingress, woodworm infestation or timber  decay.  The damp and timber report produced is usually required prior to exchange of contracts, where any damp quotation or timber quotation can be used to negotiate the price of the property.  We recognise that speed is of the essence with home buyers and we are able to carry out the pre-purchase survey quickly and, if requested, can email the damp and timber report to the client or direct to the client's solicitor within a matter of hours of the survey being carried out.
